What are people saying about you on the Internet?

Reputation.com allows you to take control of your online reputation in 4 simple steps:
  1. Protect your personal info -- They find and remove your personal data from sites that sell it.

  2. Define your image -- They help you promote a truthful online image that you control.

  3. Defend your reputation -- They defend you against attacks, rumors and distortions online.

  4. Monitor your image -- They provide ongoing, deep Internet monitoring.
I had the opportunity to interview Mr. Sam Weller on Thursday, March 3rd, 2011.

Mr. Weller manages business development and strategic relationships for Reputation.com, working with corporate, business, and government partners to develop online reputation management solutions for high-profile individuals and brands. Prior to joining Reputation.com, Sam was a Vice President at Tremont Capital Markets specializing in interest rate and currency risk management. Sam is a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy (West Point) and holds an MBA from the University of Texas at Austin.

Sam says, the best thing to do to protect your online conversation is to own the conversation. What he explained is that if you regularly reach out to your customers via digital newsletters, tweets and such, they will know who you really are and dismiss the haters out there.

He also gave us a free tip - you can monitor your online reputation for free by setting up a Google Alert. That way you can know what's being said and you can then take control of the conversation.

Liquid Leadership -- From Woodstock to Wikipedia

Over the past 15 years, Brad observed a startling change in corporate America. The latest generation of workers have grown up immersed in new technologies, such as laptops, iPhones, texting, social networks and augmented reality.

This 24/7 connected, early adopter to anything technology driven has created a whole new divide, in which more and more young people are growing up as Digital Natives - comfortable using technology as their primary resource to do business - while the established older generation of Baby Boomers are using technology as their secondary resource.

Unbeknown to most, companies such as Kodak now derive 50% of their current revenue from technology that did not exist 5 years ago...technology invented by Gen Y. Brad Szollose is passionate about helping people understand the changes that are taking place right now in the 21st Century.

He is the author of LIQUID LEADERSHIP: From Woodstock to Wikipedia--Multigenerational Management Ideas That Are Changing the Way We Run Things. Make sure to visit his website at www.LiquidLeadership.com.

I had the honor and privilege of interviewing him on Tuesday, January 25th, 2011 @ 8:30pm.

Publishing a book can boost credibility and profits

I had the opportunity to interview Dawn Rivers Baker on Tuesday, January 11th at 8:30pm EDT on the GBN Talk Radio podcast.

Oh - first a little background on Dawn...

ABOUT DAWN RIVERS BAKER

Dawn Rivers Baker is the owner of Wahmpreneur Publishing, Inc. The company is a privately held, woman-owned subchapter-S micro-corporation headquartered in Sidney, New York. Wahmpreneur Books, the division that we'll be discussing in this podcast, is a division of Wahmpreneur Publishing, Inc.

Why publish a book? One of the keys to establishing yourself as an expert in your field is becoming a published author. Your name on the cover of an authoritative, well-produced book gives you instant cache and can lead to more speaking engagements, media appearances, and paying clients.

I did my usual due diligence on my podcast guests and what really impressed me about Dawn and her company is that she was well-recommended by Mark Levine in his book The Fine Print of Self-Publishing. Mark is like the Zagat Survey or the JD Power of the self-publishing industry.

Dawn dropped a lot of gems in this podcast. If you're a micro business owner, a freelancer, or an independent contractor, you'll find this podcast full of the "good stuff."

Make sure to visit her book publishing website at www.WahmpreneurBooks.com

Warning: Don't call Rahiem the "P Word" (Puppet). He really doesn't like that.

Check out some of their videos featuring Rahiem Drinkwater. These are three of my favorites.

What the heck is "Agent Anything?"

Sometimes you come across some really cool ads on NYC subways. Just yesterday, I saw an ad for a company called Agent Anything. I was like, "What the heck is Agent Anything?" Well, Agent Anything was created to address the needs of two groups of people: Busy, hardworking New Yorkers who don't have time to accomplish all their daily tasks or run their own errands, and College students, who want to make a bit of pocket money, but need to fit their work around hectic schedules of class, practice and more. Agent Anything brings these two groups of people together and enables them to trade their resources: a bit of busy people's money for a bit of college students' time.

On Thursday, November 18, 2010 I interviewed the President of Agent Anything, Harry Schiff to learn more about this ground-breaking concept.

Let me know what you think, okay?

Let's cut to the chase. People want to talk about their business, their products and services, and why you should do business with or hire them. Those that want to strut their stuff and tell the world how hiring them as an employee or as an independent contractor is a good idea.

Living a Life of No Complaints

Ahhhh... Wouldn't that be a great life? Well, emPOwering NOW LLC, can make it happen for you. Michael Wolf and Mahalene Louis are teaching a universal curriculum to end the illusion of separation and empowers the heart of conscious creativity. Their mission is to empower Leaders and Visionaries to receive, develop and maintain the state of mind where all things are possible. They are based in Austin, TX.

What I like about the "M&M Connection" (i.e., Mahlene and Michael) is that they are real people who have truly been there and done that. They are not hokey folks who are just spewing theory. For instance, Michael has a great track-record in corporate sales and, and Mahlene dedicated more than two decades of her life making the esoteric easy to understand and practical to every day living.

Folks, I got to tell you, I come across A LOT of business coaches, but Michael and Mahlene are the real deal.

There is a lot of talk about the "Law of Attraction", and "The Secret", but I'd dare say Mahlene and Michael's Mini Intro to the Path of XPR to a great primer to put a lot of things into perspective. Check out this video:

Also, make sure to visit their website at www.EmpoweringNow.com.

All the best,

P.S. I had the pleasure of interviewing them on Tuesday, February 2, 2010.

Automate Follow-up and Get More Done

A lot of us home-based entrepreneurs still have a full-time job. That sure does make growing one's business kind of difficult. However, difficult is not impossible. Especially in 2010 and beyond.

After reading books like Tim Ferris' The 4-Hour Work Week and Scott Fox's e-Riches 2.0, and joining great online communities like The Perfect Biz Finder and Click Millionaires, I picked up a couple of ideas on how to automate your initial contact and follow-up.

I discuss a few of them in the below video.

Check out the video and click through the links for more information on these free and low-cost services.

Let's NOT Be Partners, Okay?

Glenn Garnes is a sought after speaker and trainer on a variety of topics relating to business relationships, including partnerships. Voted as "America's Most Influential Business Connector" at the U.S. Small Business Conference, Glenn has positioned himself as an authority on building quality business relationships. Glenn's book, Let's Not Be Partners, Things You Must Do Before You Tie the Knot ('not')! lays out a simple, but effective process for making better partner choices, and achieving more in business.

I had the opportunity and pleasure of interviewing Glenn on Tuesday, December 8th, 2009. Wow! What an info-packed interview that was. Here are some of the things Glenn touched on:
  • How to determine if you need a partner
  • How to choose the right people for the right reasons * How to structure your relationship to maximize effectiveness
  • The importance of structuring your deal in writing
  • What to do if you're already in a bad relationship
Folks, I've got to tell you, I so wish that I spoke to Glenn before I started my last two companies. I've made a lot of the mistakes that Glenn discussed on the call. Ever been in church and feel like the preacher was speaking to you? Well, that is how I felt when I was interviewing Glenn!

Here is the interview.

Let's Get Ready to Pop & Roll!

*The above CD cover design was done by Arsenio Echevarria

Louis Valore is the creator of what he calls Pop & Roll music. He is a veteran musician in and has been playing gigs around NYC for some time now. He has been on the cusp of big deals twice. Not once, but twice. Both times the untimely death of an agent and of one of his band members sunk the record deals that were about to be finalized.

Through the fire and disappointment, Louis has stayed the course is still going for his dream. We can all learn from him. He is laser focused and he loves what he is doing.

Louis and I work together at a major international law firm based in Lower Manhattan. You know, you never know who is who unless you ask people about what they do or, if you are so bold, to tell others what you do. Louis and I got to talking one day and we figured that we have the synergy to help each other out. It doesn't stop with me and Louis, though. There are other "grassroots entrepreneurs" at my office like Frank Perry, Michelle Nedd, Hector Pagan, Ranisha Morales, and the gentleman who did the CD cover design pictured above, Arsenio Echevarria.

Here is the 30-minute feature interview called "For the Love of Music" that I did with Louis Valore on Monday, November 9th, 2009 @ 12:00pm EDT.

Louis is available for gigs at clubs and private events. His phone number is 917.538.5220 and his website (where his schedule is posted) is @ www.LouisValore.com.

People, Pop & Roll, and rock on...

Getting Passed the Gatekeeper

When you're making sales calls, getting passed the gatekeeper can be Herculean task. The gatekeeper is the individual that fields sales calls and protects his/her boss from solicitations.

Getting passed the gatekeeper is an art. Some things that can be helpful to your are learning the gatekeeper's name before you call on the decision maker in the organization, handwritten greeting cards, and little bags or boxes of chocolates.

Check out this show that GBN co-founders, Lisa Torres and Tyrone Turner (that's me!), did in April 2008 discussing this topic.

I hope that you find this helpful.

Happy selling,

Don't wait for President Obama or Congress to give you affordable health insurance

It's time to get back to the basics...

Now is the time to get back to the basics to insure your success in these times...

The three most important areas to take care of right now are:

1-Your health
2-Your relationships
3-Your finances

Let's talk today about the first one... Your health. There are many things you should be doing in stressful times to be strong in the future when things are back to normal.

Diet, exercise and regular health checkups are paramount to remain in tip-top shape.

With better health, your energy levels are high, and with higher energy, comes higher earnings.

Now most of you, may be taking care of your health through diet and exercise, but are not relying on health care or seeing the doctor for important checkups.

This is a BIG mistake considering that many illnesses and diseases are preventable by proper screening and testing including cancer, heart disease and diabetes to name a few.

You may be staying away from the doctor because you are either working for yourself or for someone who is not providing benefits.

Well, GOOD NEWS! Jamie Minton's company offers a program that gives great benefits without having to qualify. Even if you have health issues!

You can sign up online (no quotes needed) and make sure you are taking care of the most important asset you have...your health.

You can get basic coverage for as little as $99.00 per month as an individual, and the family plans are super low as well.

I'm glad someone finally stepped up to the plate and provided a much needed solution for those working on their own.

Jamie Minton lives in Atlanta, GA, and his website is www.QualityAffordableHealthPlans.com.

Check out this interview that I did with Jaime on Tuesday, August 25th, 2009.

I hope that you tell others about this program that can literally save lives.

To your health,

P.S. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. ~ Benjamin Franklin

I met Ciro DiScalfani on a speed networking over the phone event. In today's job market and with so many people being desirous of pursuing their passion, Ciro is the perfect person to hook up with.

Ciro’s over forty-five years of experience included working in a variety of capacities, e.g., flavor development technician & applications specialist; packaging engineer, manager, group leader, and consultant in the confections, OTC, household products and personal care & cosmetics industries. Using audio branding to promote your business

This is the first post in an ongoing series where I will be introducing you to various individuals that I have had the good fortune to meet and or do business with. Folks, allow me to introduce to one of Atlanta's best, a dynamic young woman named Denise Phinn. She is the owner of Sound Marketing Designs.

So, what is Denise bring to the table and how does she help people?

Everybody wants to get noticed, but how should a person go about getting noticed?

Let me direct your attention to something before I answer that question.

Babies cry for attention. Men and women go to great lengths to get the attention of a person that they have a romantic interest in. Businesses do all types of promotions and offer incentives to attract new customers and to upsell their existing customers.

With the advent of social media like Facebook, Myspace, Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube, people are very excited to be able to leverage the power of the Internet to share their personal interests and/or to market their business. However, the World Wide Web is a big place and it is easy to get lost in the crowd.

One thing that business owners can do for their business is to brand themselves.

What Denise does is help people audio brand their business by creating jingles and doing voice overs. This way a small business owner can better promote their business and stand out in the crowd.

We all whistle, hum, or sing jingles that we hear all the time. Most of us do it unconsciously. Wouldn't you like to have a jingle that is associated with your business to be in playing in the head and being whistled, hummed, or sang by prospects? That is where Denise Phinn and Sound Marketing Designs come in.

I had the pleasure of meeting Denise and doing business with her. We met on a social networking site for small business owners and quickly took the online conversation offline (telephone). Her audio branding services really piqued my interest so I decided to retain her to help me with creating a jingle for my business, Grassroots Business Network, LLC.

We then had the opportunity to meet face-to-face earlier this month when she was in NYC on business. Ladies and gentlemen, this young lady really impressed me with her poise, passion for her business, and the excellent value she brings to the marketplace. Also, her rates are very reasonable and her turn-around time on delivering the finished product to you is impressive and sets a high standard.

Denise is really good a what she does.

I had the pleasure of interviewing Denise on the GBN Talk Radio Show recently, and you can listen to the recording of the interview by clicking on the link below. At the beginning of the show you'll hear the jingle that Denise created for radio show.

Click on the player below to listen to the interview with Denise Phinn.

I highly recommend Denise Phinn. Her services are particularly relevant for those interested in podcasting, creating a musical theme or voice intro to their website, or for voice over work for radio commercials and video.

She really studies your business while she walks you through creating tagline and jingle.

For instance, McDonald's has a cool tagline - "You deserve a break today." and it is supporting by a catchy music jingle and singing voice over.

How about the FreeCreditReport.com commercials you hear on the radio and see on TV. Those are stellar examples of how big businesses use audio branding as part of the marketing strategy.

You can do the same for your business. You can compete with big boys now.

Please reach out to Denise if you would like to learn more about branding your business.

Also, ...

Who do you know who would be interested getting new customers for their business? Denise Phinn and Sound Marketing Designs can help.

All the best,

The intention of this blog is to be a gateway to introducing you to quality individuals across the USA who have taken the entrepreneurial plunge.

As of this posting, I will be focusing on highlighting small biz success stories in the following cities: the Greater NYC metro area; Charlotte, NC; and Atlanta, GA.

Any two of us is a lot smarter and stronger than any one of us. So get inspired then get your butt in gear.

Stay tuned, wonderful small biz success stories are on the way...
